Zion’s

We’re summerizing the camper (Eco 14 foot) and getting it ready for our maiden voyage of the year … all the way to Zion’s National Park, which thankfully is only about an hour’s drive east of our house.

Wow … I found this awesome map that shows you how lucky we are to live in this spectacular showcase part of the world. Even with the increase in gas costs we should be able to get plenty of fun use out of our semi-new toy.

As you can see, we love the red mountains and blue skies of Southern Utah. I don’t know that I would have loved it as much back in pioneer days when their way of cooling their homes was to soak a gunnysack and tack it onto an open window hoping a breeze would blow through. I can’t imagine going through our 115 plus degree weather here in the summer without ice and air conditioning … and wearing long dresses with long sleeves! I don’t even WANT to imagine that!

I’m making a list of all the things I want to do while we’re in Zion’s. Here is the start of it:

1. Read, Write, Sketch

2. Sleep

3. Eat

4. Read, Write, Sketch

5. Sleep

6. Eat

In between those three things we will go for easy hikes, walk through the little stores in nearby Springdale, and sit by the bubbling creek full of the spring melt off. It will be wonderful!

Our last (and only) trip in our camper was the awful experience we had when a pit bull from a neighboring campsite attacked and killed our 8 year old male Bichon, Ozzy. I still can’t stand to think about it and our 7 year old grand daughter still suffers flash backs from her horrible experience. You can read about that here. I don’t know that I will dare take our new Bichon, Lady, with us. Maybe next time … this time she will stay at home with our daughter.

You can expect some wonderful pictures because our son, Warren, will be here from Marysville, Washington, to take them. He is our family photographer and everyone gets excited when he’s around with his camera.

If we are lucky we’ll see some beautiful waterfalls down the face of the red and white cliffs. It’s been quite a while since we have been able to enjoy camping because of our arthritis and other pain factors … but now with our little home on wheels we are excited to get back out to that nature that we love. If we’re lucky we’ll see a lot of wild life and possibly some beautiful waterfalls off the steep cliffs.

  1. Boy, does that sound nice right now. We are watching the snow pile up tonight. We have at least w 1/2 inches so far and it is still going strong. That is just not right after Easter!

  2. The only time I was in Utah was to sit at the bedside of my only sister who was in a coma and according to dr.’s dying. But on day 5 of the coma she suddenly woke up and flabbergasted all the dr.’s with her full recovery.

I’ve always heard that Utah is beautiful…one day I’ll have to visit again only this time I’d like to sit next to a bubbling creek.

    Blessings, Patsy

  3. Sounds so appealing! Especially the itinerary you laid out.
Sorry but I’d missed the story about Ozzy. Wow what a bummer. I’d say I’d have a lot of trouble taking my dog out in public after such a horrible incident. I had a pit bull attack my daughter’s dog in our neighborhood (Las Vegas) when we were going on a walk with Kelly on leash! It was awful! It’s hard, but I keep reminding myself it’s the owners, not the pit bulls, that are the real culprits.
