Too Big for Their Britches … er Nest
Our babies are growing right out of their nest. We had such a fierce wind the other night I was afraid their nest would get loose on the cord. The hummingbirds did a good job of attaching it but it is starting to tip from the weight of the birds. We don’t dare mess with it for fear the Mom will abandon them.
I hope they don’t fall out! I can’t believe they can even stay in there. They are sure cute.
In just one day they are even bigger. They don’t look very comfortable and no longer even fit down into the hole where they hatched. I guess their parents designed it that way … so the babies would grow themselves right out of home and have to fly away. These babies will be quite domesticated with all our watching them and taking their pictures. They probably think they are celebrities.
It has been amazing of how many of my friends have had bird nests in their yards and being able to see the miracle of life. Look at my friends Jenn Olson link on my blog and you can see the eggs that she found! WOW… it has been a great spring for birds and my friends!
Maybe there is a lesson to be learned there for us parents? Hehe. Build our nests small!
