Three Cheers for Costco

Costco has been good to us when it comes to our electronic purchases and todayDS was no exception.

Last February when Mother started going downhill and we needed to take turns staying up with her all night, Lynn went to Costco and purchased a Nintendo DS and games to help me stay awake during my shift. I’ve done my very best to take care of this little game package and it has served me very well in the 15 or so months since we bought it.

Over the weekend the upper screen quit working and it wouldn’t calibrate. My grandchildren had played with it but they had been very careful so I know it wasn’t anything they did that caused the malfunction. Lynn had just bought me a little gadget called a TTDS which is little the size of a game but actually holds about 80 games. I was looking forward to taking it with us on the upcoming camping venture.

Lynn always keeps the original boxes and this morning he packed up the 16 month DS in its box and took it back to Costco. Costco provides a 2 year warranty to all of the electronic products sold there. We’ve used it for bigger electronic purchase but I didn’t really expect they would cover my little hand held game machine that was almost a year and a half old.

Hip Hip Hooray for Costco. They gave him a total refund … no questions asked. Even though he could have purchased the new Nintendo DS for $30 less at a different store Lynn didn’t hesitate at all to purchase it at Costco because of their integrity in honoring their warranties. We have purchased televisions, Ipods, Game Boys, Nintendo DS, Stereos, printers, laptops, computers, XBox, speakers, DVD players, telephones, Play Stations, over the years and have not been disappointed.

Our executive membership of $135 a year is well spent. A basic membership is $35.00.

  1. I love the red! We love the DS probaby more than any other gaming device we have had. We have four now (blush) and they have made our car rides much more bearable with the kids.

  2. I’m not sure where you are, but CostCo return policy here is limited to 90 days on electronics now.

True, had you purchased a DS here 16 months ago it would be taken back and a cash refund provided but not if it was purchased in 2008.

I’m also wondering about the problem with your DS. You said the top screen doesn’t “calibrate?” How so? The bottom screen is the only one that should need calibration given that it’s the one that’s touch sensitive.

  3. The top screen went out. It is so light you can’t see it and it won’t adjust. It is the bottom screen that doesn’t calibrate anymore. We are in St. George, Utah. We bought it in January 2007. I was surprised they refunded our money after that long … but grateful as it is a fun little gaming device and I couldn’t have afforded another one right now. Maybe they’ve changed their policy here as well but they didn’t say anything about it when he took the game back.
