Thirty-Six Days ’til Christmas!

IMG_2458

I wish I would have started sooner … I didn’t think about it until I was at my daughter’s in Auburn, Washington … towards the END of our trip!   She mentioned she wanted to make some “Things” for her family for Christmas so I helped her.   Then I started thinking of others in the family who would also enjoy these “Things” so I started making a list and before long my list was up to 34, not counting the ones I helped my daughter with.    THIRTY FOUR!    Each “Thing” takes me approximately six hours.   Holy Macaroni I do tend to take big bites of more than I can chew now and then!    So far I have five totally finished and ten that each need about an hour more.

The thing about crocheting is that it keeps my hands occupied and my mind is free to go wherever it wants.   I can crochet while watching tv, listening to books, and while Lynn is driving down the road.   I can crochet while I wait in the car with the dog and Lynn dashes into the grocery store.   I even crocheted last night while we were waiting for our meal at Sizzler’s (This is the first restaurant we’ve been to alone since we left home).  I have crocheted in my sleep but to my disappointment when I woke up it hadn’t carried over to real life.

A big basket of colorful skeins of yarns sits near me as we drive down the highways.  I crocheted down the Oregon Coastline and through the Redwood Forest and I will continue to crochet across to Las Vegas and through the mountains to home … and then … I will still continue to crochet.   If I’m lucky and my fingers and wrists hold out, I may just get all thirty four of these done on time!

I am having fun!   Every time I start a new one I think of that person and my heart smiles and I hope that what I am making will warm their hearts as well.

The first Christmas projects, the ones I have been working on much longer, have been forwarded once again to next year’s “To Do” list.    I think I would have been smart to stick to that one!

P.S.   A side note … my grandchildren all love to roll the wrinkles around on my hands!   Glad those wrinkles are good for something!

  1. I also love to crochet. I find it very therapeutic. :) Good luck on finishing your projects! I’m sure they will be appreciated.

  2. So, guess who gets to do all the chores?

  3. Could be worse, Edna. You could be NaNoWriMo-ing a book this month. But you aren’t. But your fingers are still having fun!

  4. Thanks, Mary. I am crocheting every spare minute to get all of these done and had to add one more name to the list tonight! I have to quit showing them to people, lol.

  5. Thank goodness I didn’t sign up this year! I would have felt compelled to finish! Although I do have a story I’ve been wanting to start … guess I could at least start it!
