The Yeller Bus

This is it … the one and only car I ever drove so fast I got a ticket.    “How do you get a speeding ticket in a 1977 Volkswagen Bus,” you say?    You fill it up with noisy children and the Beach Boys on cassette and head to Salt Lake City … the rest is easy.     This was the car I told you about earlier, after the repairs had been made.  The kids loved this car the first few years but as it aged and started to rattle and make weird, loud noises they were embarrassed to be seen in it.   They would actually instead of take them to the drop off place.  It was always my pleasure to keep right on driving and let them out right in front of their school.    It turned out to be the best way to make sure they didn’t miss the bus.

That house in the background is the home I grew up in in Draper, 13703 So Fort Street.   It looked quite a bit different than it does from this side view years later.  (Picture it without the covered porch and the big family room they are adding to the back.)   Dad added a room here and a room there for about thirty years and gradually it was a big home.  The window you see in the background is the one to my bedroom.

It’s too bad that most of us can’t afford to add onto our homes when we are raising our move out and start living on their own is when we add the family rooms and expand the kitchens.realizing how big a job it is to keep up a large home and want something smaller.    It’s all backwards.
