The "Rest of The Story of Ozzy"
Perhaps you remember the horrible death of our Bichon, Ozzy, last summer. We were surprised recently with a check in the mail from Washington County. Apparently Washington County decided to press charges on their own … where she pleaded innocent and got an attorney and demanded a trial. I don’t know all of her sentence but part of it was a financial restitution to us.
We thought it was all over after we’d gone to court here in Ivins to have her dog deemed vicious and dangerous. Because of a glitch in how the law was written her dog was not put down. She was ordered to keep her dog on a leash and muzzled if it was outside of her enclosed back yard.
It is good to see a consequence for what happened, but we didn’t want her money. We wanted to be assured her dog would not threaten another dog or child. It wasn’t a matter of vengeance; it was a matter of danger.
Our little grand daughter who was walking Ozzy when this happened suppressed her feelings at the time but she is now suffering post traumatic syndrome from it and is in counseling.

It is so sad that people would think they were innocent in these types of situations and not see that they have a very dangerous situation at their hands. I’m so glad your grand-daughter was not physically hurt. Maybe you can use the money for her – treatment or a college fund or just a fun day/vacation.
I’m glad to see something was done after all! even though I know the money can never replace your beloved pet. Some people can be so abusive! I have my own dog attack tales but I’ll spare you the details right now. (the out turn of one is that I and my daughter’s dog were maced! Imagine the fury that brought out in me!!!!!!!!)
