Thank you George Osmond

I was so excited for Marie Osmond’ after her first dance of the evening last night on Dance’s With The Stars.     I thought it was quite a beautiful tribute to her parents and was amazed at how much she actually did resemble her mother in a picture I had seen of her in a book I read about the Osmond family.

The first time I saw the Osmond’s perform was before they were well known in the performing world, before their debut on the Andy Williams show even.  I attended a Christmas dinner some time in the 1960′s put on by The Utah State Credit Union, and the Osmond’s were there to perform with their five young sons, Marie, and their smallest little guy, Jimmy, who was maybe 3 years old at the time.    I have followed their career ever since and my children were Donny & Marie fans who collected their sons and pantomimed and danced to them in our dining room with their friends.

With the news today of the passing of George Osmond,  my first impression was, “Oh that’s too bad.”      Then, I wondered if Marie would have to pull out of the dancing competition she has worked so hard on for the past who knows how many weeks.      I would imagine she has mixed emotions about it all, but knowing the importance of their family ties and the strong bonds they have it wouldn’t surprise me if that happened.   I thought … how nice that if she does she was able to go out on top.      She is a gracious, talented woman with a bubbly personality and I admire her for putting herself before the American audience to be judged with praise or ridicule every week.   I have a lot of pride in this Utah girl who has represented us so well.

It is nice, in this day of hard rock bands and rap to have professional performers like the Osmonds who represent old fashioned American family values.   I imagine at George’s funeral and at their family gatherings afterward there will be a lot of music and laughter as his family gathers to say their goodbyes.    Thank you George and Olive Osmond for providing so much clean, family talent for our entertainment over the years.
