Talk’s Cheap … Unless It’s About Exercise

So Lynn and I have this membership at the gym and we haven’t been using it … but we want to use it so we keep on paying for it.   Once you quit paying for it you lose your membership and if you want to go back you have to sign up again with a new sign up fee.      We got in on this “deal” with a low sign up fee and low monthly payments so you can see why we keep on paying for it.   I think we’ve been paying for it for three years now but the new “deals” have a higher sign up fee and a lower monthly payment … which kind of ticks us off … particularly since we don’t use it.

Every month or two we talk about how we should start going back to the gym, but every month or two that’s about the most exercise we get … talking about going back to the gym.

The only exercise some people get is jumping to conclusions, running down their friends, side-stepping responsibility, and pushing their luck!  ~Author Unknown

Let me think about this now … I think for the two of us it is $22.00 a month … and we’ve been paying for this for 3 1/2 years … so that is … uh … $164.00 a year, three years is … uh … $432.00, plus six months is half a $164 so that would be $82 … so that would be $514.00 … only I cant be sure if it was 3 1/2 years or 4 1/2 years … I’m thinking I need to add another $164 to that so the grand total would be $578.00 or thereabouts.     By now we should really be in good shape I would think.

Well you can take off the six months because that’s about how long we used it in the beginning, so that brings the grand total down to $496.00 … for how much it costs us to talk about going to the gym every month. But think how much we have saved by not having to pay that sign up fee again had we really meant business when we said we wanted to go back.

I’m afraid I’ve gone and done it now … making this public and all.   We may actually have to either quit talking about it or do it.

I am pushing sixty.  That is enough exercise for me.  ~Mark Twain

  1. I walk alot for errands, run up and down the staircases at home, carry 40 pound bags of water softener salt to the basement, haul heavy grocery bags weekly, stretch and bend while cleaning the house and working in the yard. Who needs a gym when you can exericse and get things done at the same time right at home? Ditch the membership.

  2. One vote for ditching and getting things done at home! Good advice!

  3. We did almost a verbatim of what you are Lynn are doing, but we only did it for a year at 24-hour-fitness. Too many perky 30-somethings for me to feel comfortable there. So this year we joined the health club and I went four times and then got sick! (Was it the germs in the jacuzzi, the sauna, or on the weight machines in the exercise room?) I went back once after I started to get better, and got set back with several more days of coughing and ear drainage. Now I’m almost well. Should I go back?

  4. Oh Alice, what a relief to know we aren’t the only ones. Actually … I think that is how they make their money … with people like us.
