Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake Your Bootie

It took me two hours but I actually completed my first crocheted baby bootie; not a set of baby booties mind you, one single green baby bootie that could cover one tiny little foot.    My friend finished a cream colored one.    It will be a miracle if I can produce another one that turns out the same size and looks similar enough to put with it.     We’re making them for the Humanitarian Project sponsored by the church we are members of; The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints.   Women of all denominations are invited to participate.

Baby booties

Women from all over the world are working on different projects that will be sent to areas of need: quilts, baby kits, hygiene kits, baby quilts, children’s clothing, hand made toys, picture books, medical packets, leper’s bandages, and various canned foods.   It is all done by volunteers who donate materials and time.  I like to imagine the sweet little babies who will wear the hand sewn night gowns, diapers, and booties and be wrapped warmly in a 45 inch square blanket made up of two pieces of flannel.

Crocheting booties is something I’ve never done in my 61 years, even though feel good about my pot holders, dish rags, afghans, and the edgings on baby blankets.   What I’ve never learned to do is read a pattern.    It is a challenge, particularly since it isn’t written in English words.       I am an old dog about to learn a new trick.    Thank goodness for a nice friend around the corner who is more experienced than I.

The bootie I created today is supposed to fit a new born but  it looks like it could fit a toddler.  Like I said, it will take a small miracle to come up with a suitable mate.   When I told Lynn I needed to post a picture of my bootie on my blog he stepped right up and offered to take it … isn’t that just like a man for ya?

  1. As Nancy would say: “You’re a Hooker!”
    Congratulations!
Nancy knit/crochets VERY tight – I think how you hook is indicative of your personality.

  2. Very awesome! Good for you!

  3. I am impressed! Those are darling booties.

  4. What you are doing for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints humanitarian project is awesome. I am sure that someone is going to appreciate them very much. I am grateful that the LDS church teaches about the true principles of Jesus Christ.
