Lynn’s Surgery Day

Okay, so there has to be a few funny things … even with Lynn’s full knee replacement surgery today.

How about the first words out of his mouth this morning before we came in to the hospital?   “It’s a miracle!   I’m pain free!    Look, I can walk!”

Or the lady who was preparing my lunch tray:   “Ohhhh, is that flour or a whole lot of mold?”    This said as she places the grilled chicken sandwich on a plate and hands it to me.

Or … same lady … “Oh, he’s on Coumadin so he shouldn’t have oils and too many fresh greens because it can cause bleeding.    Oh, give him this and this and this.  Surely that much won’t kill him, I hope.”    As she places packets of ranch dressing and mayo on the tray beside the lettuce.

Or … Lynn looking concerned and reaching under the covers to feel around.   “Why is that so cold?   That shouldn’t be cold!”      The spinal was wearing off and feeling was coming back and he suddenly realized the ice pack had slipped off his knee some time ago and was settled nicely right in his crotch!

By the way, first day has gone extremely well.    Lynn is relatively pain free and doing great thanks to the great hospital staff and DRUGS.     We both know tomorrow will be another story when he is up and walking and physical therapy starts.     Right now, though, he is sleeping comfortably and I am grateful.

  1. Yay for good drugs.
    Boo for lunch ladies.
    Yay for feeling.
    Boo for cold crotch.
    Yay for first day!

  2. Isn’t it nice when people say things like that… seriously! You would think that working in a hospital they would get a little sensitivity training, sheesh!

  3. Day Two … hospital staff have been wonderful. Lynn went to physical therapy and was awesome. He has been very tired today and slept a lot … except for when the nurse accidentally spilled a whole bottle of orange Gatorade in his bed. Over all he said it is not near as bad as he expected. It’s good to have bad expectations of pain and be surprised.

  4. So glad the day had things to laugh about. So glad Lynn is doing so well. However you would think they could come up with a better way to get a guy up on his feet than by pouring gatorade in his bed. Love ya both!

  5. A sense of humor is vital in times like these, although I’m sure there will be some times when neither of you feels like laughing.
