Long Term Goals = Satisfaction

I was telling my daughter tonight how excited I am to be reaching some of my long term goals this year. What a great feeling!

1) Retirement: It is amazing to me that I am coming to the end of a long, gratifying career in the field of social services. I started working full time when all of my children were in school and that was 25 years ago. For the last 20 years I have been the executive director of The Arc of Washington County (a non-profit agency that serves people with cognitive disabilities). Now it is time for me now to be a full time housewife and I am so excited! Full time housewife and grandmother in just two short months.

2) Next month we will make our last payment on all debt other than our house payment! No more debt for us! The next goal is to get the house paid in full and we are now saving cash to buy an SUV and travel trailer in 2 years when my husband retires. We’re looking around now to see what make and model will do what we want and be be the most gas efficient.

3) I lost 90 pounds this past year! My goal is to lose another 50 pounds before 2008. I know it will happen … no doubt about it. My husband and I have cut out sugar and white flour and watch our portions. It’s amazing what has happened since then. Of course, most of the fattening foods have sugar or flour in them) Our next phase of our health goal is to move into more exercise and we are starting up at a gym tomorrow. Exciting!

4) Not only have I lost weight, but the diet I have been on has helped me to better manage my pain from myofascial syndrome and fibromyalgia, which I have had for the past 30 years. I am now getting by with 800 mgs of ibuprofin three times a day. A year ago I was on prescription medication for the pain and also steroids and it didn’t control the pain. I was told a high protein, low carbohydrate diet could help lessen the pain with myofascial syndrome and it definitely has. To control the pain, though, I also have to control my stress and get enough sleep so these are ongoing goals … (Control Stress?)

To me these have been four major BIG DEALS and the feeling of accomplishment is very satisfying.
