It’s Been So Very, Very Good

“Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he’s been robbed. The fact is that most putts don’t drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, most jobs are often more dull than otherwise. Life is like an old-time rail journey . . . delays, side tracks, smoke, dust cinders, and jolts interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas, and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride.” Gordon B. Hinckley

clip_image002[10]So … here I am on Valentine’s Day thinking about my man and the many years we have had together. The first Valentine’s we had together was when we were starting to date. There was one of those SLC hard winter storms and he couldn’t get his car out of their driveway to deliver me a heart-shaped box of chocolates he’d bought me … so he walked over in the storm. He lived about a mile away I’d guess and the wind was blowing the snow sideways and it wasn’t an easy walk. When I answered the door and there was a frozen snowman Honey standing there with his cute, sheepish grin … that was when I first knew he loved me … forty-two years ago today.

I’d gladly climb aboard that rickety old-time rail with him again. There have been high high’s and low low’s … as anyone would expect … but I love the average days when we’re just together living aclip_image002[12]nd doing normal every day things and sharing our lives hand in hand. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s been so very, very good. Happy Valentine’s Day, Honey. I love you too!
