Is Grandpa Santa Clause?
Last night Chloe and Steele were being wild and crazy and it was time to settle them down so we started chatting about Christmas. Angi reminded them of Icabod … the special elf assigned to our family for generations. He has even been known to make special home visits at family parties. Chloe and Steele didn’t seem too impressed that Icabod was going to rat them out so I said, “Well if you aren’t afraid of Icabod you should be afraid of me because I an watching you and I have an “in” with Santa Clause.” Angi, my daughter, spoke up and said, “She does … she’s had it since I was a little girl.”
Steele said, “I know you do, because I already know Grandpa is Santa Clause.” He said this with a huge smile and bright shining eyes. He said it with such conviction that I figured he’d come to that point in his life that he didn’t believe in Santa anymore. Then Chloe said, “Yeah, we know Grandpa is Santa Clause.”
So I gave the answer I have given for forty years, even to teenagers and grown ups … “Well, I wouldn’t say that too loudly … just in case.”
Steele said, “No Grandma. We know it is Grandpa, but what we haven’t figured out is how he gets around to all those houses.”
Later when I told Grandpa about this conversation his only answer was … “That’s a secret.” He makes a good Santa.
