Ichabod, Another Tradition

j0407778When our children were babies I found a cute little song about Ichabod, a little mischievous elf who spies on the kids and then tells Santa if they are naughty or nice.     Not long after they learned the song we started having little visits at the window from Ichabod himself.     He’d pop his little face up and take quick peeks at us and then disappear quickly.    He reminded me a lot of the “Brownie” that used to visit my parents home now and then.

Most of the time, however, you don’t see this little guy or any of his cronies because they absolutely do not want to be seen.      As you can see from the words of the song, though, it is a good thing to try even harder than ever to be good from Thanksgiving to Christmas.     (I wish I could tell you the name of the person who wrote this song.   If you know, please tell me!)

Ichabod the Elf

It’s not very long until Christmas,
Be careful whatever you do.
There’s an eaves-dropping elf named Ichabod
Who’s keeping an eye on you.

Chorus:
And Ichabod’s a tattle-tale,
Ichabod’s a blabbermouth,
Ichabod’s a trouble maker,
Icky’s watching you.

Now back Icky scoots to the north pole,
So early on Christmas Eve,
And he gives his report to Santa Claus,
As Santa gets ready to leave.

(Chorus)
So all of you’d better believe it,
Be careful whatever you do.
There’s a sly little elf named Ichabod
Who’s keeping his eye on you.
