Grandkids take the Hum out of Drum
Twice a day I walk my little Lady up or down the road in front of our house so she can do her business. We do about a two block circle. Usually, I chat with little doggy and point out nice clumps of grass or a good spot on the road (she only does her poopies on the road, which is nice since it makes it real easy for clean-up). Unless I pass a neighbor to wave at and trade a few words with the walks have been highlighted by doggy doing her business. It’s pretty cut and dried and often hum drum.
Two days ago my little 2 1/2 year old grand daughter accompanied us on our walk and that changed everything. The sky was blue, the clouds were fluffy, the weeds with tiny purple flowers were pretty. The birds were singing, a tiny stream of water was crawling down the side of the road. One truck that passed was a beautiful bright red, another a sunny yellow. One little girl hummed and sang and skipped and chattered as she held on to the leash attached to the collar of my little white Bichon. She definitely took the hum out of the drum of that twenty minutes. Any one of my seventeen grandchildren can do this for me. I am so blessed!

That is the miraculous thing about children–their ability to make us see the world with fresh eyes. When we are parents, we don’t always have time to indulge that vision, but as grandparents, we are much more likely to take the time.
It is amazing to see and experience things through our grandchildren’s excitement and their eagerness to learn. I have two postings on my blog about a simple Sunday afternoon walk around the block with my grandsons. The walk turned into quite the expedition at it netted some amazing finds for them.
