Goodbye to My 30 Year Old Kitchenaid Mixer
My KitchenAid Mixer, purchased in 1977, celebrated its 30th birthday recently and is showing small signs of giving up the ghost. I am trying to decide whether to replace it with a new Kitchenaid or whether to get myself the Universal Bosch 700. It’s hard not to be loyal to a mixer that served you well for 30 years but I am thinking I want to make bigger batches than the Kitchen Aid likes to take on. On the other hand, I have all these attachments I could still use … darn. I have loved it …. hmmmm.
I have to decide quickly because I found a wonderful sale that ends August 1st. In all my research it is by far the best buy: http://www.pleasanthillgrain.com/bosch_universal.aspx . I have visited several local stores that carry the Bosch but this special for the Model 6610 Universal Mixer, which includes the blender, is about too good to pass up at only $319.99 and no shipping. Doesn’t seem possible, does it?
There is also a great price for mills (both electric and hand) through a connection I found at our church cannery. That link is http://www.blendtec.com . These two mills were highly recommended and the price is much less than I have found locally or elsewhere online.
I have an image of myself in my head now that I am retired and have turned 60, that puts me more in the kitchen and getting back to the homemaking things I haven’t been able to do for the last twenty-five years or so that I have worked out of the home. I love the modern things of my life (particularly the computer and internet possibilities) but I don’t want to let go of the legacy left to me by my grandmothers and mother … so it’s time to turn back the clock in that area at least.
I think I just made up my mind … I’m going to treat myself to the Bosch and its attachments and sadly say goodbye to my dear old friend the KitchenAid. Let me say this, however … it is probably the best investment in appliances we have ever made. I don’t think you could go wrong with one. Hopefully the Bosch will deserve such praise some day.

I am 54 going back to school to be an elementary school teacher. I have a lovely Kitchen aid circa 1980, it is as you say a lovely machine. Mine is still going, but the $319.00 special on a Bosch can’t be disregarded.
You sound like a keen lady and I wish you well with your new Bosch.
