Goal Check 2008

1.   Six quilted advent calendars by Dec 1,2008.

Shoot, I wasn’t specific enough on that one.    If I meant buy the material for six quilted advent calendars then heck yeah, check.      If I meant packing up the material in a bin with the pattern in November so I wouldn’t have to look at it in December then that would also be a check.  On the off chance I meant I would actually finish them, well then … I should have been more specific.

2.  Write Novel #2

Check!   Did that one without getting tendonitis..

3.  Learn to groom Fresca.

Check!   I bought the equipment and she’s not been to the doggy beauty parlor once in 2008.   She sort of looks like a punk rock poodle instead of a bichon …but she doesn’t seem to care.

4.  Trip to Seattle

Check!   Well, I went, but Lynn couldn’t so maybe it gets half a check.

5.  Learn to draw

Not specific enough … Learn to draw what?   Obviously I can’t learn to draw everything in one year … I drew my hand pretty well, and don’t forget I drew a fair Nellie  … so check.

6.  Teach Kerra, Faith, Grace, Kati, Steele, and Chloe piano lessons.

Check … except Steele who doesn’t want to learn how to play the piano.

7.  Organize and downsize

Wellllll … check, uncheck, check, uncheck … This one isn’t done  … it’s ongoing … sometimes I’m ahead, sometimes behind.

8.  Get used to the laptop.

Once the other two computers went kaput and I had nothing else to use I pretty much got used to it.  Infact, I wrote the whole dadburned book on it.

9.  Plan the Allsop reunion.

Check and it turned out great.

10.  Learn to read crochet patterns and learn to crochet booties.

Check.   That was … still is … a lot of fun.

So, I don’t want to talk about losing weight, exercising, or reading Sunday lessons in advance.

Okay, so I didn’t really have a written list of goals last year.   I just barely made them up so I’d have something to check off, but then I remembered losing weight, exercising, and reading the Sunday lessons before Sunday … and I don’t want to talk about it anymore.

  1. In light of No. 2 on your list, and even without all the other checks, I’d say you did a bangup job in 2008. As for No. 7, I’m totally alongside you on that one! That’s an ongoing job for me. I’m reading a book now to help spur me into action yet again.

  2. I heard a good talk last Sunday on making resolutions. The idea was to not make a big long list at the beginning of the year – too easy to break and become depressed. The idea was called “Just for Today” … each day set one goal of something you can improve on and do it. Ex. ‘Just For Today’ …. I will eat a sensible diet or I will do a kind deed for someone or I will begin (begin is the key word here) on a long project. I liked the idea … so Just for today I will share one good idea with someone I care about. :) HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  3. That’s a good way to do it. But don’t you just love to check things off? Now you can write down sharing a good idea with someone and check it off … just for today.

  4. [...] it’s the first thing we do in the New Year? Don’t say kissing somebody is the first thing – that’s usually done as the old year [...]

  5. You always give me a much needed laugh. I think it is a great idea to write your list at the end of the year of things you already did. I will have to write my own. I think you had a great year. How about rewriting goal number #1 more specifically for this year. :)
