Fifty-one Years of Hula Hoops

image

My cute little grand daughter,  Luca, has perfected the hula hoop.   She is very athletic and it doesn’t surprise me that she can do this on her neck, arms, legs, and waist.    She just turned seven.   I was ten when hula hoops were invented (1957) and Dad bought me one on our way on a camping trip up to Mirror Lake.   I practiced and practiced and practiced while we were up there and felt so proud that I could walk and do a few tricks.   I figured I would turn into a grand hula hoop star because I was so good at it.   When I got home from the trip I discovered that EVERYONE else had discovered them over the weekend too and were at least as good at it as I was.
