Bits of This & That

yarn 002

Tonight I decided to  attack the sack of tangled yarn from the remainder of the skeins I’ve used up here.  It took no effort on my part for it to become a real mess in the first place, but It was quite a chore getting it all untangled and useable again.  It was tempting to just leave it but I knew there was a lot of useable yarn.   It made me think of how that mirrors our life sometimes in the choices we make.  Sometimes when we’re tempted to give up we need to just exercise our faith and display some persistence and patience that we can unravel our mistakes.  Like these nice, tidy balls of yarn, we can even end up better than we were before, stronger and wiser.

Sweet baby Kai loves me … I was a little bit worried that having not seen me since the week he was born he would be afraid and there wouldn’t be time for him to learn I’m really something to be desired.   Now he holds his little arms out to me and calls “NaNa” and snuggles up close to my heart and wraps it right around his little finger.    It’s a thrill it is to be called Grandma by any of my grandchildren.   They are the dessert of life and sometimes I feel like I’ve been rewarded; but I couldn’t have possibly done anything to deserve such a prize.   It’s an unexpected emotional reward to become a grand parent and discover how much love surrounds you after you think you’ve already reached the pinochle..

After this trip I’m going to make a list of the things I actually used from my suitcase.    Even when I think I’ve downsized and packed the bare minimum there are several things I haven’t even touched.   I can actually get by on two pairs of pants, four shirts, a skirt for Sunday, and pj’s … so what’s with the other two pair of pants and three shirts?   And phooey on three pairs of shoes!      I’ve got to get this down to a science before Lynn retires and we take a few more road trips.     Besides that, most of the airlines have cut their allowable luggage to one suitcase unless you pay extra, which I certainly don’t want to do!

Some of us up here have come down with colds and some of us in Utah have come down with colds … Just how much contact does it take to catch the darn things?   Maybe it travels the airwaves.

I’m looking forward to General Conference.    With the troubled times we face economically and politically it will be nice to hear something refreshing and uplifting … words of hope and encouragement to counteract the news reports of one crisis after another.

  1. Hey, I should try that checklist thing too! I always come home with stuff I never used, but packed “just in case”. As if I would suddenly have a hot night out on the town that was unplanned or something! ;)
