Applaud The Baby Steps
It’s been fun to watch Ande
transition from a crab-like crawl to an upright walk. She’s mastered it in less than a week and acts like she’s been getting around that way all her life. Her little eyes sparkle and her smile takes over the whole bottom half of her face when she takes off from the dining room and successfully maneuvers her way down the hall and into the front room, her little arms raised in the air to maintain her balance. She seems to know it’s a big milestone in her life as she stops several times to give herself a happy round of applause before continuing on her way.
It’s too bad we don’t stop and applaud ourselves for the progress we make towards our goals when we are older. We are too critical of ourselves and don’t see our baby steps for what they are. Take me, for instance, instead of thinking I only deserve an applause if I send my book off to publishers I should be applauding every time I sit down and add another chapter, or even another page. Okay, here goes … “Hooray for Me!” (bowing deeply to my own applause).
